About Nathaniel Hodges
From "Genealogical record of the Hodges Family in New England":
Nathaniel Hodges is here placed among the children of Samuel, although there is no absolute proof that he belongs there. Nothing is known of him except that John Hodges in his will, dated May 27, 1719, mentions "my grandson Nathaniel who now lives with me," naming no other grandson. Samuel Hodges, by the death of his wife in August 1716, was left with 5 children, or 6 if Nathaniel was one. William Hodges, by the death of his wife in March 1716, was left with 2 children, or 3 counting Nathaniel. It would seem natural that the grandfather, in taking a child to his own home, would take one of these motherless children. On account of the greater number of children left with Samuel, Nathaniel is placed to Samuel's credit, rather than to William's. But there is no certainty that he was not the child of some other son of John Hodges. He evidently died young.
