Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend, Nelda Maurine Spendlove Jensen, 88, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at Legacy House Assisted Living Center of Bountiful in Bountiful, Utah of causes incident to age. She resided at 2140 West Quailbrook Drive (4777 South) in Taylorsville, Utah at the time of her death.

She was born December 24, 1919 in Magna, Utah to John Alfred Spendlove and Maude Mae Griffith Spendlove. She married Roland Aaron Jensen on May 6, 1939; their marriage was sealed two years later in the Salt Lake Temple. Nelda and Roland shared 62 wonderful years of marriage together. She was a faithful member of the LDS Church holding many positions, including Relief Society President. At the age of 42 she went back to school and received her nursing degree. She worked as head night nurse of the orthopedic floor at DePaul Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri for five years.

She was an example of strength and generosity. She lovingly cared for her dear husband for many years until his death in January 2001. She was a great quilter and quilted up to the end. She volunteered at the Taylorsville Senior Center and loved every minute, especially Bingo day where she secretly provided many of the prizes. She was a loving mother to five daughters. Rest well, dear Mother, 'til we meet again.

She is survived by her five daughters: Deanna (Morris) Parker, Newport Beach, CA; Bonnie Jean (Dennis) Dalebout, Costa Mesa, CA; Sharry (Jim) Freudenburg, Longmont, CO; Susan (Michael) Schilling, Arvada, CO; Judith (Rick) Barlow, Farmington, UT; 11 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; brother, Clifton; sister, Marjorie. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Vaughn and Gene; sister, Faye; and great-granddaughter, Elizabeth.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Taylorsville 10th Ward Chapel, 1950 West 4950 South in Taylorsville. A viewing will be held on Monday from 6 - 8 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road in Taylorsville and one hour prior to the services at the Church on Tuesday. Interment will follow the services at Valley View Memorial Park, 4335 West 4100 South. Published in the Deseret News on 12/7/2008.
