About Norman F. Bates, Medal of Honor

"Norman Francis Bates" (Nov. 6, 1839-Oct. 16, 1915) Served in the Civil War as a Sergeant in Company E, 4th Iowa Volunteer Cavalry. He was awarded the MOH for his bravery at Columbus, Georgia on April 16, 1865. His grave was unmarked for over 88 years but on May 22, 2004, this was rectified by his relatives.
