About Ole Heg

HEG, Ole

WI 15th Inf. Residence: Waterford, Racine County, Wisconsin. Born in Lier, Drammen, on 21 Jun 1831, son of Even Hansen Heg and Sigrid Olsdatter Kallerud. He came to America with his parents, a brother, Hans, and two sisters, Andrea and Sophie, on “Emilie”, which sailed from Gothenburg, Sweden, and arrived in New York on 12 Aug 1840. They came to Muskego, Racine County, Wisconsin. Married to Emilie Christensen, who died in 1856. Heg married her sister, Nanna, on 27 Jan 1861. Civil War: Age 30. Commissioned 28 Oct 1861. Mustered 13 Jan 1862, at Madison, Wisconsin. Assigned as Regimental Quartermaster. Brother to Col. Hans Heg. Resigned 6 Jun 1862. Post war: Worked as a printer. Lived in McMinnville, Tennessee, then Kansas City. He became a merchant in Chicago. In 1902, he moved to Burlington, Racine County, Wisconsin. Ole Heg died 18 Apr 1911 in Burlington. He and his wife, Nanna, are buried in Muskego Church Cemetery, Racine County, Wisconsin.
