Otger (Audacer, Odoacer) is said to have been King of the Morins, Margrave of Flanders (824), and Count of Thérouanne and Harlebecque.
The first recorded ruler of Flanders was Baudouin Bras de Fer (840-879), although later legend provided him with a string of ancestors who were "Foresters of Flanders." He was supposed to have been son of Odoacer, son of Enguerrand (Ingelramn), son of Lidéric. Baudouin might have been son of Odoacer, about whom nothing further is known, but Ingelramn seems to have been the Count dispossed by Baudouin. Modern genealogists reconcile the discrepancy by making Odoacer the son-in-law (rather than the son) of Ingelramn.
He was (supposedly) the father of Baldwin 'the Iron'. Recent scientific research claims that most of the stories about the ancestors are mythical, written by monks and abbots searching for heroic origins.
The name and origin of the wife of Audacer are unknown.
