Peder Valentin Rosenkilde (1772 – 1836) born in Stavanger, was merchant and did run one of Stavanger’s biggest Trading Houses, in addition he was consul, chief in commander of civic guard and politician. He was one of 112 men that, in 1814, made the first Norwegian Constitution at Eidsvoll. Peder Valentin started as merchant of grain and salt and gradually he turned his interest towards shipping as owner of several ships and shipyard.

On 17 May 1814, the Norwegian Constitution was passed in Carsten Anker's home in Eidsvoll, now known as the Eidsvoll Building. An assembly of 112 men, statesmen, land owners, merchants, officers and farmers worked together to write the constitution of Norway, Europe's oldest unbroken constitution. Merchant Peder Valentin Rosenkilde was one of the 112 men. He represented Stavanger Town. |

The Rosenkilde House was built in 1812 as a residence for merchant and Eidsvoll-man Peder Valentin Rosenkilde and his family. At that time the house was the biggest residence in Stavanger.The Rosenkilde House which still is one of Stavanger’s nicest luxurious houses is placed at the head of the Stavanger Harbor (Vågen).
