Eleanor of Guzman

Eleanor of Guzman (c. 1310 – 1351) was a mistress of King Alfonso XI of Castile. She is known in Spanish as Leonor Núñez de Guzmán.
She was born in Seville, daughter of the Castilian nobles Pedro Núñez de Guzmán (descendant of the noble family of Saint Dominic) and Juana Ponce de León (great-granddaughter of King Alfonso IX of León) -------------------- Narrator A: Juan Ponce de Leon was born into nobility, but his family fell on hard times. As a boy, he became a servant to Pedro Nunez de Guzman, a Spanish knight. Later, Ponce de Leon fought to drive the Moors [Spanish Muslims] out of Spain. Then, in 1492, exciting news took Spain by storm.
