About Peter Coffin

AB Harvard 1769.

 Children of Peter Coffin

Mr. Coffin's wife was Mary Currier of Amesbury. She was the mother of ten children, three sons. Peter, William, Tristram.

Peter graduated at Harvard College in 1759 and commenced studying law with Judge Sargent at Haverhill, but conceiving a dislike for the profession, he abandoned his sudies and opened a store in Gloucester. Having no business tact, he failed of success and soon becoming bankrupt he went on to the farm where he lived so long as it would yield him a support by the sale of the wood upon it and then returned to the harbor where he died Aug. 3, 1821 aged 72 years. He married Polly, daughter of Rev. Eli Forbes Oct. 21, 1773 who died in 1795 aged 40. His son Peter who died unmarried was lost at sea. Charles and Eli sailed for the north from Baltimore where Charles was engaged in business and was lost on the passage.
