In Oberhessischen Gazette of 1871 following official decree is written(partial transcript):
Reservist Adam Rühl, the Grand Duke's second Landwehr Regiment was born on 18 November 1842 to Ober-Mörlen district Friedberg;
Reservist Peter Joseph Koenig, of the Grand Ducal second Landwehr Regiment, born December 13 August 1842 to Ober-Mörlen district Friedberg; the
desertion process has been opened, are the same hereby requested to return to their respective military units, or at the latest in the 30th on Friday
June 1871, 10 clock in the morning, before the scheduled court date, signed to surrender, otherwise they again closed the investigation initiated by the same, for deserters and explains each of those named will be sentenced to a fine of 50 to 100 dollars.
Darmstadt on the 11th March 1871. Grand Duke's deputy divisional court.

On June 22, 2011 a descendant of Joseph Peter Koenig wrote from Detroit, Michigan, USA, among other things: "I am the great-great-grandson of Peter Koenig, of Ober Mörlen whom immigrated to Detroit, Michigan in 1869 at 26 years or age. His Hamburg travel documents indicate that he was a farmer by trade and my relatives have told me that he said escaped military service during a war at this time." Mr. Rupp explains, it was the Franco-German War of 1870/71.
