About Peter Lynch

A Patriot of the American Revolution for Virginia with the rank of Private. DAR Ancestor #: A072648

The son Peter lived at home and worked with his father until nineteen years of age, at which time he became attached to a neighbor girl and wanted to marry her. The young girls father being strongly opposed to the marriage forbade the son to ever speak to the girl again. Peter became angry and told the girl he was going to America and would send for her at a later date. He did not go home for money or clothing but took passage on a ship sailing for America. He worked his way to New York, and from there went to the Shenandoah valley in ol Virginia. he found emplyment with a Mr. Saffron and became of his honesty and keen sightedness was made overseer of the Saffron Plantation. He corrosponded with his sweetheart in Ireland abut she refused to come to America. In 1776 Peter married Hester Saffron who was the daughter of Mr. Saffron his employer. In 1779 Peter moved his family (Wife and two children, Abigail and Mary) into what is now West Virginia. He settled in Buffalo Creek newr where his brother Isaac lived. For several years Peter followed the trade of Weaving and Wheelwright. His home was attacked by Indeans several times and burned his home. According to the War Department, Washington, Peter Lynch served in the Revolutionary War for a total of three years as a Private. During the three years he served under Captain Richard C. Anderson's Company of the Fifth Virginia Regiment of Foot comanded by Charles Scott and Josiah Parker; Captain James Mason's Company of the Fifteenth Regiment of Foot Commanded by Colonel David Mason, Lieutenant Colonel Innes, Major Richardson and Major Gustavus B. Wallace; Captain Richard C. Anderson's Company of the Fifth Virginia Battalion of Continental Forces comanded by Lieutenant Colonel Josiah Parker; Captain John Gregory's Company of the Eleventh and Fifteenth Regiments of Foot commanded by Colonel Josiah Parker, Colonel Daniel Morgan, and Colonel Abraham Buffor; Captain John Anderson's Company of the Third Virginia Regiment of Foot Commanded by Colonel William Heth;Captain John Blackwell's Company of the Third Virginia Regiment of Foot Commanded by Colonel John Nevill; and Major JohnWebb's Company of the Fifth and Eleventh Virginia Regiments of Foot commanded by Colonel William R.
