Peter Montague III was born in about 1638, married Mary Doodes Minor, daughter of Meindert (Minor) Doodes, a dutch sea captain who settled in Virginia. (Meindert's children all took his given name as their surname). The Montagues lived at Montague Island, in Middlesex County. Peter died before 2 Dec. 1695, when his sons Peter IV and William, on behalf of themselves and their sisters Elizabeth and Catherine petitioned the Middlesex court for a division of five slaves "given by Mindret Dodes to the children of Peter Montecough, deceased, after their mother's death."
