PHILIP PINCKNEY must have been a young man of considerable means when he came to New England. He first settled in Boston but moved to Fairfield, Fairfield, CT, prior to 1650. In 1664, he and nine other men purchased from Thomas Pell a large tract of land called "ten farmes" on the Hutchinson River in what is now Westchester County, NY. Although PHILIP and his wife JANE lived in Fairfield as late as Feb. 13, 1669/70 (when he sold the land to Nathan Gold), the Pinckney's probably settled at Ten Farms shortly thereafter.
Ten Farms grew into the thriving community of Eastchester, and PHILIP played an important role in the town's development. He was a captain in the local militia in 1681 and a commissioner of Eastchester in 1686. In his will dated Jan. 9, 1688/89, PHILIP did not mention his wife, so she apparently predeceased him.
