Pierre was born circa 1615, probably in Saint Jean d'Angely, south west France, and married his wife Elizabeth [née Secault] in 1656. They probably lived in the vicinity of Cognac in south west France. They were the parents of four sons, Abraham, Pierre, Jacques and Paul. They belonged to the Huguenot religion, which is the name for French Calvinist Protestants. Pierre was almost surely involved with wine making. With Louis XIV's revocation of the Edict of Nantes in 1685 his sons, Abraham, Pierre and Jacques fled to Holland, where, because of their knowledge of wine making, they obtained free passage from the Dutch East India Company to the Cape where they were promised land on which to produce wine. -------------------- Married to Isabeau Sicaultin
