Alfred Henry Freshour, sixth child of Henry Freshour (b. 1799) and Elizabeth A. Heidrich (b. 1802), was born 7 March 1842 at Gillam, Jasper, Indiana, United States. He enlisted in the Union Army, Company H, 4th Infantry Regiment Iowa, in 1861as a Private, was wounded and discharged in 1862. Claiming disability, he applied for Veteran's benefits in 1864. In 1865 Alfred H. Freshour married Rebecca Ann Evans (1850 - 1923); they had three sons. Pvt. Alfred Henry Freshour died on 11 November 1872 at Jasper, Adams, Iowa, and is buried at Brooks Cemetery, Jasper, Adams, Iowa, United States. Rebecca Ann Evans Freshour married Frank M. Black in 1875; they had one daughter.
