Born in 1807 in Cross Anchor, Spartenburg County, South Carolina to Absalom Bobo & Ann Musgrove Bobo, Sampson Bobo married Rebecca Woodruff about 1829 in Spartanburg County, South Carolina. Six children: Nancy Woodruff Bobo Cansler, Mary Ann Bobo Todd, Alice Arseneth Bobo Wynne Burnett, Samuel A. Bobo, Jane Elizabeth Bobo Wells and Biram Bobo.

After the death of baby son Biram, followed by the death a month later of wife Rebecca at age 39, Sampson married Elizabeth Territhal Pearson on Sept. 14, 1848. Three children: Sallie Bobo Bius (7/1849-after 1900; married Wm. P. Bius in 1880), George S. Bobo (1851-1879; married Minnie Cleveland in 1877) & Anthony Franklin Bobo (1853-1884). The couple moved with their three children and the five surviving children of his previous marriage to Panola County, Mississippi around 1857.

Sampson served as a private with Co. E, 1st Mississippi Cavalry (State Troops). He enlisted June 11, 1864, at the age of 55 and was discharged March 15, 1865.

Sampson died October 26, 1873 in Elbert County, Georgia, and is buried with Elizabeth, his second wife, at Antioch Cemetery, Courtland, Panola County, Mississippi.
