רבי יוחנן הסנדלר - נולד באלכסנדריה, מצרים (נפטר ב-150). תנא בן המאה השנייה. מתלמידי רבי עקיבא. רבי יוחנן היה דור רביעי לרבן גמליאל הזקן

קברו ויחוסו

רבי יוחנן נפטר בערך בשנת 150. כיום מראים את קברו בהר מירון, ורבים העולים על הקבר, ביום כ"ט בתמוז, הוא יום פטירת צאצאו רש"י.

ר' יוחנן הסנדלר הינו חוליה חשובה במגילות יוחסין רבות. על פי ספרי היוחסין, דרך אב סבו הלל הזקן הנו צאצא לדוד המלך, ורש"י הינו צאצאו. כיום ישנם רבים הנמנים עם צאצאיו של רבי יוחנן הסנדלר.

Rabbi Yochanan Hasandlar (200-300) (רבי יוחנן הסנדלר) was one of the main students of Rabbi Akiva and a contemporary of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai.

He is one of the Tannaim whose teachings are quoted in the Mishnah. His name, "Hasandlar", could either refer to the fact that he earned his living as a sandal maker, or that he was a native of Alexandria.

Rabbi Yochanan was a great-grandson of Rabbi Gamaliel the Elder; he also purportedly traced his ancestry back to King David.

Rashi, the great medieval commentator, was a 33rd-generation descendant of Rabbi Yochanan.

He is well-known for his saying in the Mishnah of Pirkei Avoth (4:14):

"Every assembly that is for the sake of Heaven will survive; but if it is not for the sake of Heaven, it will not survive."

-------------------- רבי יוחנן הסנדלר נולד באלכסנדריה, מצרים במאה הראשונה ונפטר בשנת 150 באזור צפת. היה תנא, מתלמידיו של רבי עקיבא ודור רביעי לרבן גמליאל הזקן. יש הגורסים כי שמו הוא שיבוש כינויו יוחנן האלכסנדרוני והוא לא היה סנדלר באמת. . בתלמוד הירושלמי מסופר כי בעת שנאסר רבי עקיבא בבית האסורים עלתה שאלה הלכתית ביחס לאישה שביצעה את מצוות חליצה, אך ללא עדים שנכחו בשעת המעשה, האם חליצתה כשרה או לא? החכמים היו מעוניינים לשאול את רבי עקיבא שאלה זו, אך נמנע מהם עקב שהותו בבית הסוהר. רבי יוחנן פתר בעיה זו בדרך מקורית: הוא התחפש לרוכל, והבליע את השאלה ההלכתית בהכרזתו על סחורתו: "מי מבקש מחטים? מי מבקש צינורים? חלצה בינו לבינה (בנוכחות החולצת והיבם בלבד) מהו?" ובהכריזו משפטים אלה עבר בסמוך למקום בו היה כלוא רבי עקיבא. ענה לו רבי עקיבא - "יש לך כושין? יש לך כשר?" - הבליע גם הוא את תשובתו ההלכתית לכך, "כשר" - כלומר, החליצה כשרה, בעת גזירות אדריאנוס החליט לנסוע לנציבין שבבבל ללמוד תורה אצל רבי יהודה בן בתירה, ועמו רבי אלעזר בן שמוע. כשהגיעו לצידון תקפום געגועים לארץ ישראל, ושבו ארצה. רבים העולים על קברו ביום כ"ט בתמוז, הוא יום פטירת צאצאו רש"י. במסגרת הדלקת המדורות בל"ג בעומר, נהוג להדליק מדורה גם על ציונו, בשעה שתיים בלילה.
