Rasmus Galberg Esbensen
He was a merchant who must have seen the opportunities a trade establishment in the new Kven areas presented. Together with his Danish wife Mathilde Henriette Brammer (1826-1896) he purchased some land in the middle of the Outer Kven City in 1847 and in 1848-49 erected a dwelling house on the site. It was built in a style common to the dwellings of the merchants and state officials along the Norwegian coast in the middle of the 19th century.
Esbensen's company had major expansion plans. In 1860 the site was extended and further developed. Around 1870 the main house was extended and refurbished. The new headquarters included a manger, a barn, and lodgings for the workers and a wagon shed. A tall wooded fence enclosed the site. Directly south of the main house a jetty was constructed, with three large storage houses and a shop. To the west a reindeer pasturage was developed, and to the north a garden with a gazebo.
