He was the son of Reginar, Duke of Lorraine and Alberade (Medlands). Wikipedia erroneously says he was son of his father's first wife Hersende, who was perhaps a daughter of Charles the Bald and Ermentrude.

Reginar II married Adelaide of Burgundy, daughter of Richard, Duke of Burgundy and Adelaide of Auxerre, with whom he fathered Reginar III, Count of Hainaut.
