Isaac Brock: Was an Anglican Clergyman who came to Canada in 1868 to be principal of Huron College in London. (Huron College is now part of the University of Western Ontario)
Apparently church politics caused him to lose this position in 1872 because the bishop wanted to build a cathedral and could not afford both a principal of the school and a dean of the cathedral so he made it one position that went to someone else.
This is the official reason in a booklet published on the History of Huron College. According to his daughter, Edith (Granny), he was not an easy person to get along with and frequently quarreled with authorities.
Granny believed he was asked to leave Huron College because he was too High Church (i.e. too much like the Roman Catholics) for them. Isaac went on to become the rector in Galt, Ontario, then, very shortly thereafter, rector of St. Peters Church in Sherbrooke Quebec, then Principal of Bishops College School in Lennoxville in 1882-83.
Apparently he got the Sherbrook job because of a sermon representatives of the church heard him preach in Galt.
The original copy of this sermon is at the Toronto Reference Library. He then went to Windsor, Nova Scotia where he was Principal and Professor of Divinity at Kings College, Windsor. He was rector of Kentville 1893-1900.
This was the happiest time in his Ministry. Apparently he continued to live in the old rectory in Kentville after retirement, as his grandson, Karl Harrington Tufts was born there in 1910.
It is likely that the new rector, a Father White, lived in the new rectory, allowing Isaac and his daughter Edith and family to live in the old until his death.
In 1887 Kings College in Windsor conferred upon him an honourary D.D.
