Rev. Samuel Street (1635 - 1717)

Rev. Samuel Street was the son of Nicholas Street (1603 - 1674). He was born about 1635, married Anna Miles (1642-1730) on Nov. 3, 1664 in New Haven. Samuel was one of the original 39 signers of the Wallingford Agreement in 1668. They had seven children, the first three born in New Haven and the last four in Wallingford. He died on Jan. 17, 1717 in Wallingford. Anna Miles died in 1730 in Wallingford.

Rev. Samuel Street: was the town’s first minister and one of its first settlers, being one of the original 39 signers of the 1668 Wallingford Agreement, or original covenant of the first Wallingford planters. Rev. Street‘s daughter, Mary, married John Hall. Their son, Lyman Hall, Street‘s great grandson, was a signer of the Declaration of Independence. Rev. Street, who died at age 82 in 1717, served as minister for 45 years.

His house, the Rev. Samuel Street House, built in 1673, is an historic building. Rev. Samuel Street was graduated from Harvard College 1664, one of the first settlers of Wallingford. Installed 1674, first pastor there, and remained till his death, Jan. 17, 1717. He is buried at Center Street Cemetery in Wallingford, CT

Children

1. Anna, born Aug. 17, 1665*, died 1705, married Samuel Merriman (1662-1694) and they had four children: Nathaniel (1688-died young), Nathaniel (1690-1767), Theophilus (1693-1723), Samuel (1694-1783). After Samuel died, she married Bartholomew Crossman.
2. Samuel, born 1667*, died about 1720, married Hannah Glover on July 14, 1690 in New Haven. They had eight children: Elizabeth (1691-), Nathaniel (1692-1748), Elnathan (1695-1787), Mary (1698-1778), Mehitabel (1699-1785), John (1703-1777), Samuel (1707-1792). After Hannah died he married Elizabeth Brown, the widow of Michael Todd, on Dec. 16, 1716.
3. Mary, born on Sept. 6, 1670*.
4. Susanna, born June 15, 1675*, died April 2, 1704* in Wallingford, married John Peck on May 23, 1694* in Wallingford. They had three children, all born in Wallingford: Mary (1695-1740), Susanna (1697-1755), Samuel (1704-1755).
5. Nicholas*, born July 14, 1677*, died 1733, lived in Groton, married Jerusha Morgan (1683-1726) on April 2, 1707. Nicholas and Jerusha had six children, the first two born in Wallingford: James (1708*-1799), Elizabeth (1709*-), Anna (1711-1790), Jerusha (1714-1790), Mary (1716-1789), Susanna. After Jerusha died, he married Mary Eliot (1687-1771). Nicholas and Mary had one child: Rebecca born 1727/8 in Groton. After he died, she married Hawkins Hart in Wallingford on Jan 30, 1734, next Abraham Pierson of Killingworth, and finally her fourth husband was Samuel Hooker of Farmington.
6. Katherine*, born Nov. 19, 1679, married Joshua Munson (1684-1711) on Dec. 20, 1710 in Wallingford, then married Joshua Culver on Mar. 11, 1714 in Wallingford. She had one child from Joshua Munson, Mary, born on Mar. 2, 1712 after her father’s death. Joshua’s father Samuel Munson, was one of the 39 signers of the 1668 Wallingford agreement. She and Joshua Culver had eight children, all born in Wallingford: Benjamin (1716-), Stephen (1718-1721), Samuel (1720-1747), Daniel (1723-after 1790), Titus (1725-1765), Joshua (1727), Joshua (1729).
7. Sarah, born on Jan. 15, 1681*, died Nov. 28, 1785, married Theophilus Yale on Nov. 11, 1701* in Wallingford. Theophius was the son of Thomas Yale, father-in-law of Joseph Ives, and signer of the 1639 New Haven Covenant. They had seven children, all born in Wallingford: Elihu (1703-1745), Ann (1705-), Samuel (1711-1754), Theophilus (1714-1759), Sarah (1716-1784), Katherine (1720-1767), Mary (1726-1743).
