WILLIAM McCALL was born 1766 on Lynch's Creek near Society Hill, South

Carolina, son of CHARLES McCALL, R.S. (Volume 4). He was married twice.

The first marriage was in 1789 to Ann (or Nancy) FLETCHER, born 1768 in Cheraw District, South Carolina, daughter of William FLETCHER, R.S. She

died in Screven County, Georgia, in 1796. William and Ann had four children.

The second marriage was in 1800 to Mary Hannah PEARCE, daughter of Joshua PEARCE, Jr., R.S. of Screven County, Georgia. she died about 1830 in Screven County. William and Mary had six children.

William McCall enlisted at the age of 16 years in the American Army in the Revolutionary War, serving under General FRANCIS MARION. He moved with his parents to Georgia in 1785, settling in Effingham County but being cut into Screven County in its formation in 1793. He was a large land-owner, owning farms and timber lands in Effingham, Screven and Bulloch counties. He died at his home on his plantation in Screven County on January 12, 1830, and was buried on his home-place in a family burial-ground. His grave was marked some years ago by the Brier Creek Chapter, D.A.R. He was Justice of Peace, 36th District, Screven County, being first commissioned August 20, 1804, and again on May 12, 1808.

Mr. McCall was a member of the Baptist Church as was all his family. He was baptized into the membership of Welch Neck Baptist Church in South Carolina in his youth, and was ordained to the ministry in 1789 after moving to Georgia. He served several years as Moderator of the Hephziabh Baptist Association, and pastored churches in his section for many years prior to his death.

-------------------- William McCall was born on Lynches's Creek near Society Hill, on the Great Peedee in South Carolina, in 1766. He was a Revolutionary Soldier, a youth of sixteen years of age in 1782, and was one of General Francis Marion's men.

Soon after the Revolutionary War he moved from Society Hill, South Carolina, with his parents to Georgia. He applied for land and received it for his services as a Revolutionary Soldier, in Effingham (now Bulloch) County, Georgia. He was a member of the Baptist Church, having been baptized in the Welch Neck Baptist Church of which his grandfather, Robert Williams, was once pastor, and was ordained to the Gospel ministry in 1789. Was Moderator of the Hephzibah Baptist Association; for many years he was one of the most prominent Baptist preachers of Screven County, Georgia. He was also a wealth and influential planter, carrying on his agricultural pursuits with the help of many slaves. He owned in 1796 over 1,000 acres of land in Effingham, Screven and Bulloch Counties and in 1805 paid taxes on over 2,000 acres.

He married in 1789 Ann (called Nancy) Fletcher, born 1767 in the Cheraw District, South Carolina. They lived in Bulloch County, Georgia, until 1793. She died in Screven County, 1796.

He married a second time in 1800, in Screven County, Georgia, Mary Pearce. The daughter of Joshua Pearce of Screven County.

Reverend William McCall died in Screven County, January 12, 1830. Mary Pearce died about 1830 and both are buried in the Family Burying Ground on the plantation in Screven County. His grave has been marked by the Briar Creek Chapter, Georgia Daughters of the American Revolution, Sylvania, Georgia.
