Son Samuel Carpenter, Jonas Blankenbigler and John A. Yager named executors. Witnesses were Cornelius Carpenter, Joseph Carpenter and John Smith (Madison County, Virginia Will Book 2: 245-246; County Clerk's Office, Madison, VA.).

Son of John Carpenter (Zimmerman), Sr and Anna Barbara Kercher. William married in 1755 to Mary Wilhite (Daughter of Adam Wilhite and Catherine Broyles, and granddaughter of Michael Wilhoit.) Both William Carpenter and Mary Wilhite came from German pioneers of the Germanna Colony.
Both he and his son, William Jr, were both present at Yorktown in 1781 when British General Cornwallis surrendered about 8,000 British soldiers to a French and American force bringing the American Revolution to its end. William furnished supplies to the troops.
"William and his son, Jonathan and grandson Kinchen were citizens of Shenandoah Valley at or near Winchester, VA., and came to North Carolina about the year 1800 and settled near Tuckaseege Ford of the Catawba River in Lincoln Country where William died." _________________________________________________________
