Mr Richard James Slemen, 35, was born on 16 December 1876 in the village of Landrake, Cornwall, the son of Mrs Augusta L. Slemen (née Steed) and brother of Minnie J., Hilda and Arthur Slemen. The 1881 census shows him to be living with his mother, sister and grandfather, Richard Steed. He possibly later moved to live in Four Lanes.
He embarked Titanic at Southampton and was travelling second class (ticket number 28206, £10 10s). He was most likely travelling to Nashua, New Hampshire where he was known to have had relatives.
He was lost in the sinking, his body, if recovered, was never identified.
There is a memorial to Richard Slemen on a family gravestone in the cemetery at Landrake, Cornwall.
