Richard came from Great Yarmouth, England in 1637 at 32 years of age, which would make his birth year 1605 instead of 1595. He had a tendency to exaggerate his age. Came with wife and an unknown child; apparently first to Salem, Massachusetts, but did not stay there.

Richard and Joan are buried side by side in the old Dorchester burying ground.
