Robert Atwater of Royton, in Lenham, Kent, England was born in England. Will proved December 22, 1522; Archdeaconry Court, book 15, page 6. His wife was _____ _____ He is the son of John and Maryan (_____) Atwater. An unknown number of children were born, but included:

i. John Atwater: His wife's name was Alice.

ii. Thomas Atwater [#10496]

This Robert Atwater is designated "the elder". His will mentions sons John and Thomas, brother John and his children, sisters Florence and Thomasyn, and Alice wife of son John. It also mentions properties Langderfield, Parkfields, Little Scotland, and land lying in Lenham called Grant's Gate. -------------------- Robert Atwater (also recorded as Water and Attwater) was a man of fortune and a Justice of the Peace of the county. He and his wife, Catherine Bright, had twelve sons and two daughters. The sons all died of the plague before the birth of the daughters.

There can be no doubt that Robert was a devoted adherent of the reformed religion. His two daughters visited the reformers in the prison. Letters written to the daughters are published by the martyr, John Bradford, while imprisoned in the Tower of London.
