He was the brother of John Foote of London, and the father of Nathaniel Foote "The Settler." -------------------- At the time of his marriage, Robert Foote was Citizen and Fishmonger of St. Mary Boettals in Thames Street, London; later he was of Wethersfield, Essex; still later of Shalford, Essex. According to TAG 54, St. Mary Boetalls in Thames Street is not easy to locate. According to "A Plan of London in the Latter Part of the Middle Age," there is no St. Mary's on Thames Street. There was a St. Botolph's (often misspelled Bowtall, etc.) at Billingsgate on Thames Street a few blocks from St. Leonard's. There was also a St. Mary's Bothaw on Cannon Street, four or five blocks from St. Leonard's. The author suggests the christenings of Nathaniel Foote and his siblings might be found in the London area rather than in Shalford or Wethersfield in Essex. Robert's will was made at Shalford, dated 27 January 1608/1609 and probated 15 February 1608/1609 (PCC 21 Dorset = Waters 1276 f.). It mentions wife Joan, a lease in Royston; the poor of the parish; the poor in Wethersfield. Joan was to have the yearly rent out of tenements held of Sir Robert Chester, knt., in the town of Royston; sons Robert, James, Daniel, Nathaniel, Francis, Josua, Joseph; daughter Elizabeth Foote; daughter Mary Hewes and son-in-law John Hewes of Royston. Robert, James and Joseph were apparently above age 24. Robert got the mansion house with stock of hop poles. Bequest to Mr. Richard Rogers, preacher of God his Word [the famous preacher 1550-1618].
