About Robert Strahan, Medal of Honor

One of ten men on the same ship awarded the Medal of Honor. Sinking the Confederate raider, the Alabama, was critical to the war effort.

The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Captain of the Top Robert Strahan, United States Navy, for extraordinary heroism in action as Captain of the top on board the U.S.S. Acting as Captain of the No. 1 gun, Strahan carried out his duties in the face of heavy enemy fire and exhibited marked coolness and good conduct throughout the engagement.
