The Helena Independent Daily September 1, 1922 Sidney Herald Under Control of New Man Sidney, August 31., With the last issue of the Sidney Herald the paper passes to a new management. Harry Ketcham, who has been managing editor for the last 12 years, has resigned and Roger Burke, who has been with the paper for the last year, assumes control. Mr. Kelcham has made tho Herald one of the leading weeklies of the state and it is with considerable regret among mem bers of the newspaper fraternity that he leaves the Herald.

1923.... Sidney Herald, 100 years of stories Published on Tuesday, August 19, 2008 3:35 PM MDT http://www.sidneyherald.com/articles/2010/11/28/herald_facts/facts185.txt "The county agent's office reported in June 1923 that "grasshoppers were hatching out in alarming numbers." Farmers were warned that, "wherever hoppers are hatching out on the breeding places at the rate of six or more to the square foot, it is likely that damage will be done." Farmers were urged to begin poisoning the hatching grounds at once. By July, it was reported that the rainy weather had hampered the growth of the "hoppers" and kept them from moving to the grain fields from their hatching grounds in the prairies.

September 1923 marked a significant change at the Herald. The Sidney Herald passed to the new management of "Sam Hampton of Belgrade, popularly known as "Uncle Sam" Hampton. The Herald is owned by Harry G. Ketcham, now clerk for the state consolidated boards in Helena, who has been editor and publisher of The Herald nearly ever since the newspaper was established more than 15 years ago. Since Mr. Ketcham went to Helena about a year ago the paper has been edited and managed by Roger D. Burke. It is said Mr. Burke will go to Great Falls. "Uncle Sam" Hampton needs no introduction to the people of this section. His work has taken him into all the highways and biways of Montana and particularly Richland County. He is a farmer, a writer and speaker of exceptional ability."
