Roy Disney was the nephew of legendary studio head and animator Walt Disney. Disney's father, Roy O. Disney, and his uncle Walt founded The Walt Disney Company in the 1920s, and the younger Roy originally joined the company as a writer and producer. He later worked to unseat two of Disney's top executives, Robert Iger and Michael Eisner, feeling that they had moved away from his uncle's vision.
