About Rt Hon Charles Booth, PC, FRS

In 1862, he founded, with his brother Alfred,‎ the shipping company which became the Booth Steamship Company, specializing in the shipping of goods, especially skins and leather, between Latin America, New York and Britain.

In 1887, he began a survey of Tower Hamlets, London, which evolved into his massive account of working class life in London.

In 1899, he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society.

In 1902, he published Life and Labour of the People ‎(in its final form, 17 volumes)‎.
