Rt. Hon. Robert Dundas of Arniston was born on 18 July 1713. He was the son of Robert Dundas, Lord Arniston. He married, secondly, Jean Grant, daughter of William Grant, Lord Prestongrange. He married, firstly, Henrietta Carmichael, daughter of Sir James Carmichael and Margaret Baillie, on 17 October 1741.
