Sir James Ulick Francis Canning Alexander was born on 10 February 1889.1 He was the son of James Dalison Alexander and Lady Emily Harriet Catherine Boyle.2 He married Lady Mary Beatrice Thynne, daughter of Sir Thomas Henry Thynne, 5th Marquess of Bath and Violet Caroline Mordaunt, on 27 November 1947.2 He died on 4 April 1973 at age 84.2
