About Reginald Heber

"In the English-speaking world 'From Greenland's Icy Mountains' is still the inevitable hymn for missionary occasions. Of the four stanZas the second reads:

'What though the spicy breezes Blow soft o'er Java's isle, Though every prospect pleases, And only man is vile: In vain with lavish kindness The gifts of God are strewn; The heathen, in his blindness, Bows down to wood and stone.!'" - Myers 1547

A collection of his hymns was published shortly after his death; one of these, "Holy, Holy, Holy", is a popular and widely known hymn for Trinity Sunday.
