Rufus was the 8th child born to Jonathan Brockway and Phebe Smith. Rufus was b Lyme, Ct., Aug. 14,1772; m. RUTH---; they were the first settlers on the farm afterward owned by David Lincoln,Isaac N Gage, and its present occupant,James A Crane; the wild land was a present to him from his father; he subsequently moved to Maine, and his descendants are unknown to us. After Ruth died May 28,1831, he married 2nd with SUBMIT POWERS on Dec. 13, 1831 in Penobscot Co., Maine. She was b. c1771 and died June 17,1843. He married 3rd with PERLEY W. SPRAGUE on Aug. 20,1843 in Sangerville, Maine. She was b. c 1787 and died July 28,1853. All buried at Bailey Cemetery, Piscatquis Co., Maine. He was a millman.

Children: Betsey, (b W., Feb 23,1794) and Cyrus (2/14/1797 Brunswick, Maine).

• 1843 marriage record: Rufus Brockway m. Penley (Perley) Sprague in Sangerville, Maine on 8/20/1843.
• 1850 census: Rufus Brockway (78), b. NH; in Sangerville, Maine w wife Perley W. (63, b. Maine). He is a millman. They reside next door to his son Cyrus and family.
