In the NEHGS library there is a copy of a letter written by Ruth (Green) Whittier to Judge Jonathan Curin on March 27, 1698. This was a little over a year after her husband Thomas Whittier died. She writes "... to beg pardon for what delays have been by reason of the former judge removed; and also my own age and weakness having lived to the age of a man; although it pleaseth god still to spare my life ...".

"... having lived to the age of a man ..." I speculate that by this she means the biblical life span of 70 years.
