The memorial service for Ruth Theresa Nye will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Rogue Valley — Manor Chapel. The Rev. Joyce DeGraaff of First Presbyterian Church will officiate.
Miss Nye, 103, of Medford, died Wednesday (Oct. 28, 1998) at Rogue Valley Manor Health — Center.

She was born July 23, 1895, in Devils Lake, N.D., daughter of Stephen A. and Anna — Gundlach Nye. The family moved to Medford in 1907. The Nye family had wheat acreage that — they soon planted in pears. They eventually owned several orchards and a processing plant. — Miss Nye became an expert at picking and packing fruit.
Miss Nye graduated from the University of Oregon and taught arts and crafts, first at — St. Paul's Episcopal School in Walla Walla, Wash., then for many years in the Portland — schools.
When her mother became ill, she retired early and returned to Medford to live.
When the Manor opened in 1961, she moved there and continued her interest in arts and — crafts. She was largely responsible for enameling becoming a popular craft there.
Along with the late Annette Gray, Miss Nye gardened, and when the Manor's Health Center — was located on the third floor, the two created and maintained a roof garden outside the — lounge for the pleasure of the patients.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Medford.
Survivors include a nephew, Philip Nye, Portland; a niece, Marilyn Ruth Wilson, — Carlisle, Pa.; and a sister-in-law, Evelyn Nye, Medford. Preceding her in death were a — brother, Stephen G. Nye, who died in 1981, and a sister, Mildred.
