Ruthie Jane was the daughter of McDuffie and Sarah Jane Lowry Cummings. She married Daniel Webster Locklear on Jun. 18, 1903 in the Burnt Swamp section of Robeson county, North Carolina. After his death, she married Frank Cummings.

Funeral for Mrs. Ruthie Jane Cummings, 83, who died at her Route 1 Pembrok home Monday, was conducted Thursday afternoon at Mt. Airy Baptist church, with Rev. L. W. Jacobs assisted by Rev. John L. Carter. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Roy Lacy Cummings, Billy Wilkins, Stacy Cummings, Earl Cummings, Grady Locklear, and D. H. Wilkins, Jr. Flowers were arranged by Mmes. J. H. Locklear, McLaurin Jacobs, Polly W. Locklear, Charlie Chavis, Galloway Hunt, Nancy Jones, Wisherd Wilkins, Stella H. Locklear, Louise Locklear, Fannie Lowry, James D. Locklear, Worth Hunt, Ida Oxendine, and Emory Locklear.
Survivors include three sons, Russell Locklear, Herbert Locklear, Bill (Buck) Locklear, all of Pembroke, route 1; two daughters, Mrs. Leona Wilkins, Pembroke, route 1, Mrs. Strawdy Cummings, Pembroke, route 1; 28 granchildren; 43 great grandchildren.
