About Salman Salomon (Charlie) Shahmoom

Heskel (Ezekiel) and Solomon, who was also called Charlie, left Baghdad in 1907 and went to Bombay to Elisha but they could not succeed there. Then, they went to Shanghai, where they had their uncle Sassoon Somekh, his wife named Rebecca.

In those day in China, it was quiet easy to start a business, especially when you had connections.

In 1914, the 1st World War started. Ezekiel and Solomon started selling food to Europe. They made lots of moey. Also, they worked in the stock market, trading in gold and silver.

Their brother Ezra joined them in Shanghai. At that time, they made lots of money and Ezra became a partner with them. However, the partnership with Ezekiel and Solomon did not last for long because Ezekiel was a speculator. He did not care much for the money and therefore they split and each went on his own.

Solomon and Ezra held on to their money but Ezekiel was alway ups and downs. They bought lots of properties in Shanghai and even a movie house.

In 1920, their sister, Rachel, got married. At her wedding night she got very ill and within few days she died. In those days nobody knew why she died. After that, all the family, including Eliya, his wife, Sera, and their children, Naim (also called Albert), Kettie, Flora and Mouzli (Mozel).
