All Fasal Information from Jenny Fasal from London. April 2005
14 January, 2005: (by Jenny Fasal)
This is a slight re-draft of / amendment to information which I sent recently to a young Czech reporter who wrote enquiring about the family.
Perhaps I can give you a little of the history of the Fasal family.
Renata Karpinska has sent me a number of articles, some researched by Dr Spyra, and it would seem that there are records which date back as far as the 1750's to Saloman Loebl who changed his name to Fasal. He was given certain rights (of residence, occupation, etc) and became what was known as a 'tolerated' Jew. At that time vodka making and such like was one of the few things open to Jews to do. (I don't remember all the details, but I'll write that up more fully - or copy the article in due course. The history is utterly fascinating and has opened a whole new world). And so it would seem, there is a long long background to the history over generations of liqueur making in the Fasal family before they became famous for it.
Nathan Fasal, came from Sucha - which is just a little east of Teschen (or Tesin [Czech], or Cieszyn [Polish]). At some point the family came to live in the city, which was / is the administrative capital of Silesia.I do not yet have more detailed information about the Sucha connection or the move the Teschen. Nathan had a brother Josef, although as yet we do not know who their parents / grandparents were, nor how many other sons / daughters / grandchildren there were
