About Samúel Friðriksson

Carpenter in Kappeyri, Parish of Kolfreyjustadir, Eastern Iceland in 1845.

"Is told to be the son of Frederick prince of Denmark who became later King Frederick VI. Samuel came to Eskifjordur, Iceland at the age of about 20 and became a shop attendant."

Entry of Einar, the dean of the region, in the church book of Kolfreyjustadir.

[Smiður á Kappeyri, Kolfreyjustaðarsókn, S-Múl. 1845. "Var talinn sonur Friðriks krónprins, er varð síðar Friðrik VI. Danakonungur. Samúel kom upp til Eskifjarðar um tvítugt og varð þar búðarmaður", segir Einar prófastur.

Heimildir: 1845, Austf.12572, Kb.Kolfreyjust.S-Múl.]

The story tells that Prince Frederick visited Iceland and got to know Samuel's mother (name yet to be found). They fell in love and she actually moved to Denmark. She is told to have lived in a cottage on the Royal grounds, but was of course not eligible for marriage. She is buried in the "Vor Frue" churchyard in Kopenhagen.
