About Samuel Farrow, US Congress

US Congressman. He was admitted to the bar in 1793, practiced law and engaged in agricultural pursuits at Spartanburg, South Carolina. From 1810 to 1812, he was Lieutenant Governor of South Carolina and was elected as a Republican to the Thirteenth Congress in 1813, serving until 1815. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he resumed the practice of law and engaged in agricultural pursuits. He was member of the State House of Representatives, 1816 to 1819 and 1822 to 1823.

Revolutionary War Veteran. As a Captain, Samuel Farrow served in Col. William's command at the battle of Musgrove's Mill on August 18, 1780. He served as Lieutenant-Governor of South Carolina from 1810 - 1812. Served in the Revolutionary War and was wounded on the face which produced a scar which remained with him for life. Served in the 13th United States Congress form 1813 - 1816. Is known as the "Father of the Asylum" for starting the 1st State Asylum in SC. The inscription on his Tombstone reads as follows: "Died November 17th, 1824. Samuel Farrow, Esquire, in the 63rd year of his age. A lawyer by profession a soldier of the Revolution, a sincere Patriot and an honest man."
