About Samuel Francis Smith

Samuel Francis Smith died at the age of 80 years and 2 months and 3 days from a cerebro-vascular accident, arterio schlerosis and senility, according to his death certificate. He was born 11/21/1873 in Parowan, Utah and died 1/24/1954 in the Holbrook Municipal Hospital in Holbrook, Arizona. He had lived in the area of Snowflake, AZ, for 75 years at the time of his death. He was the son of Jesse Nathaniel Smith, (who was a nephew of Joseph Smith, Sr. and a first cousin to Joseph Smith, Jr.) and Emma Seraphine West Smith. Jesse had been born in New York and Emma in Tennessee. The West family was descended from royalty in England. Samuel was probably named after his maternal grandfather, Samuel Walker West. Samuel's occupation was listed as a farmer and merchant in the mercantile business. Samuel married Lulu Hatch and they had 13 children! He was buried 1/26/1954 in the Snowflake, AZ, cemetery.
