'SAMUEL MAXWELL, 'Was a farmer, he lived at Mount Hope, he was born in Ohio in 1833.and was the Son of 'Thomas and Elizabeth Vanderman Maxwell. got married October 30, 1861, to Miss Emma C. McFarland. She was the daughter of George and Mary A. Cornelus McFarland. they had five children, George A., James H., W. G., Mary B. and Clarence P. Maxwell.

' They came to Kansas in 1872, and located on the farm where he now resides. and Owns 160 acres of land, and is engaged in farming.He was in the War of the Rebellion he Enlisted in 1863, into the One Hundred and Twenty-ninth Regiment Ohio Volunteers, Company G.

'Was detailed in Hospital service, where he remained until the expired time of his terms of service and was mustered out in 1864. was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. He was the first Director of School District No. 44, served six years & was one of the organizers of the township. of Mount Hope, Kansas.
