About Samuel Moore

Birth ref: https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/NLNW-Y45

Samuel Moore. He was born on 14 Dec 1817 in unknown [14, 22]. Baptised on 14 Aug 1822 in St Botolph Aldgate [15, 16]. He died Aft. 1840. Emigration on 14 Dec 1840 in New South Wales, Australia [23]. Occupation 1841 in New South Wales, Australia (Carpenter) [24]. Reference ID was 891.

Notes for Samuel Moore: General Notes: Arrived 5 April 1841 in Sydney NSW on the Bussorah Merchant. Gives his place of origin on the assisted passage as Montgomeryshire and carrried on claiming to be a native of Wales in Australia. It is possible he was born in Wales as although he was baptised at St Botolphs without Aldgate London in 1822 along with his siblings (apart from Thomas), he was 5 at the time so Fanny/Frances could have gone back to Llandyssil to have the baby in 1817. None of the other children give their place of birth as Wales. As Uncle Samuel Breeze left him the most money £400 this indicates he knew him well so maybe he spent time as a child and also possiby as a teenager in Montgomeryshire.

1. SAMUEL2 MOORE (THOMAS1) was born Abt. 1818 in Montgomery Wales, and died 10 Jun 1906 in Mudgee NSW. He married SARAH EAMES 1846 in Hassans Walls, Lithgow, daughter of WILLIAM EAMES and MARY HARRISON. She was born Abt. 1827 in England, and died 01 Mar 1913 in Bur Rookwood NSW.

Samuel married ex-soldier's daughter at Hassans Walls near Lithgow where the Eames family had an inn. This is about 100 miles west of Sydney over the Great Dividing Range. They then have been working in Bathurst, and Rylstone districts and by 1854 were at Sofala where gold was found. By 1856 they were at Mudgee which was a small town serving the goldfields and the great pastoral stations further west.

Samuel had an obituary published in the Mudgee Guardian on 11 June 1906, page 2. The article doesn't tell anything of his origins in the UK, but does say that he was an undertaker for a time in the town, which fits with the occupation of carpenter.
