At the time of his son Henry Samuel's baptism he was resident in Fort Beaufort. His occupation was given as Lieut in Border Fingoe Police. Two years later at the time of daughter Emily Jane's baptism he was still in Fort Beaufort where he was a carpenter. In 1872 when his daughter Maryanne Maud was baptised he was living in Middledrift where he was a trader.

Married 11 Oct 1853 at St John's Anglican Church in Fort Beaufort. He was a 25 year old bachelor , a lieutenant in the Fort Beaufort Police. She was an 18 year old spinster from Fort Beaufort. Witnesses were: illegible?? H R Banbury and Elisabeth Duffy.
