Sarah Case, daughter of John Case (d. 1704) and his 1st wife, Sarah Spencer, was born 14 or 20 Apr 1676 in Simsbury Center, Hartford, Connecticut, and died there on 2 May 1704.
On 9 November 1699 in West Simsbury, she became the 2nd wife of Joseph Phelps, Jr. (1667-1750). He was the son of Joseph Phelps, Sr., and his wife Hannah Newton, and Mary Collier’s widower.
They has three children born at Simsbury:
Damaris and Amos were mentioned in Joseph Phelps 1749 Will. Amos is shown with an unlikely birth date of 1708 in “The Phelps Family Of America” (page 107) so is listed here as born before 1704. “Genealogies of Connecticut Families” (page 294) explains that Amos married in Simsbury on 1 July 1753, Sarah Pettebone, which would be his age 15. “Moreover, the births of the first five children were all entered together, probably in 1703, and when Amos was born the father neglected to enter his birth.”
Sarah’s widower married again to Mary Case, daughter of Richard Case and Elizabeth Purchase.
Mr Phelps settled in Simsbury, and was one of its most influential citizens. He held the office of Justice of the Peace for many years, and was elected to the General Assembly from 1709-1727, twenty-eight times; during this time the Legislature held two sessions each year.
Sarah Phelps (Case) born 4/14/1676 (or 8/14/1676?) cannot be daughter of Sarah Case (Holcomb) because Sarah Holcomb was born 6/23/1668. According to the Online Family Tree Index (sources?) she was daughter of Sarah Case (Spencer) born 3/7/1636 in Cambridge/Middlesex/MA.
