About Sarah Chapman (Carrier)

Sarah Carrier Chapman (1684-1772), daughter of Thomas Morgan Carrier (1624 - 1734) and Martha Allen (1654 - 1692), was accused of accused of witchcraft in Andover, Massachusetts, along with her mother and siblings. The children were tortured into confessing and implicating their mother, who was convicted and executed by hanging; the children were eventually released. Sarah married John Chapman on 7 September 1707 at Colchester, Connecticut. She died at age 88 on 6 December 1772.

After her mother, Martha, was arrested for witchcraft on 28 May 1692, Sarah and her siblings were brought in to be examined. Young Sarah unwittingly helped to send her mother to the gallows by relating that her mother had "baptized" her, as well as her siblings into the Devil's service. Sarah also testified against her aunt and uncle, Roger and Mary Allen Toothaker, as well as their ten-year-old daughter, Margaret.
