Sarah Jane Littlefield married Joseph Dustin in Quincy, IL, 11/6/1845 when they were 13 and 14 years old respectively. They were married by Sarah's brother, Lymon O. Littlefield, in the Church of Latter Day Saints. They had six children but divorced in San Bernardino, CA on 9/13/1866. Sarah resumed using her maiden name. Joseph then married Mary C. Bickmore in 1878, and they had twelve children.

Sarah Jane and her husband Joseph came to Utah in the Isaac Stewart Company in 1852, along with three of their children, Hiram Joseph, 5 years old, Lavina Jane, 3 years old and Asenath Cecelia, 2 years old.
