About Sarah "Sallie" McAlpin Faulkner (Murry)
in a biography of Faulkner, he is reported to have told a friend "My great-grandfather Murry had his grandfather's claymore which he had carried at the battle of Culloden. My Aunt has it now." His great grandfather would have been John Young Murry; and John Young Murry's grandfather was William Murry. However, it appears that Faulkner may have missed a beat on his generations because William Murry was born February 5, 1767, according to my research, in Buncombe County; and he thus could not have fought in the battle of Culloden in 1746.
