Miles Starling Bobo was the son of Levingston and Sally Rainwater Bobo, one of a group of families who moved to Fayette County from the Spartanburg District of South Carolina. He was born March 3, 1883 in Spartansburg District and died December 24, 1902 in Fayette County, Alabama. He married Lucy Ann Allen; they had ten children. After her death in 1888 he married Minerva E Collins.
Miles was buried at Old Mount Lebanon Baptist Church Cemetery in Fayette, Fayette County, Alabama. His headstone says only Co H 41st Ala Inf CSA on it. His Civil War record indicates he enlisted on April 14, 1862. His regiment saw action at Knoxville, Tennessee, in 1862. Miles rose from private to corporal and, on June 1, 1863, he was promoted to Sergeant. He served as a battlefield nurse until about February 1865 when he deserted. He was taken prisoner by the Army of the Potomac and, after processing, was sent to a prisoner of war camp at Holly Springs, Mississippi, to await the end of the war.
Note - some records list his middle initial as A, some as S (for Starling). As near as I can tell, they are the same person - same parents, same army unit.
